OUR VETERINARIANS
Dr.Verderame
DVM, Owner
Dr. Verderame joined our practice after graduating from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She has special interests in surgery and exotic animal medicine. Outside of work she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband kayaking, fishing and going to the beach. They have three pets, Hank and Sam the dogs,and Finnegan the cat.
Dr. Betts
DVM
Dr. Betts graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and joined our practice after graduation. He enjoys being outdoors with his wife and daughter backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking and fishing. They often hike with their retired racing greyhound, Toast, beagle mix, Maeby and rescued pit mix Bea. They also have two cats, Teddy and Buttin.
Dr. Thompson
DVM
​Dr. Thompson graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. She is a Maryland native and excited to explore the Gloucester area. She has special interests in neurology, dentistry, feline medicine, and compassionate end of life care. Outside of work, she enjoys weight lifting, crabbing, relaxing on the beach, and spending time with her husband and their cat, Tux.
Dr. Long
DVM
Dr. Long is a 2005 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined our practice in 2018 and has a special interest in dentistry,ultrasound, dermatology, and Fear Free Veterinary Care. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband on the boat, horseback riding, and tending to her farm. Her family includes an amazing great dane named Senta, a feisty jack russell named Dixie, two draft horses, two mini horses, chickens, geese, a duck and a rabbit!
Dr. Mitchell
VMD
Dr. Mitchell is a 1986 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He continued his education at Colorado State University earning a PHD in anatomy and neurobiology, as well as becoming board eligible in anatomic pathology. Following that he practiced the majority of his veterinary career in Pennsylvania. We welcomed him the Animal Care team after relocating to Virginia in February 2023. His hobbies during his free time include, hiking & biking, spending time with his dog Sampson, and most recently learning to kayak.

Heather
Practice Manager-Animal Care of Gloucester
Heather began working in the veterinary field in 1998 as her first job in Northern Virginia. She eventually moved to Gloucester and has been part of the Animal Care of Gloucester team since 2011. She likes to spend her free time with her 2 kids, enjoying all that the “small town” has to offer, and playing with her 3 furry four-legged kids as well.

Licensed Veterinary Technician
Katie earned her AAS in Veterinary Technologies at Blue Ridge Community College in 2003. She joined our team in 2014. She enjoys spending her time with her husband, daughter and their cat.

Licensed Veterinary Technician
Sam graduated from Dallas College of Veterinary Technology in May 2021. She has been in the veterinary field for six years, she has greatly enjoyed working in different areas of the veterinary hospital. In her spare time, she competes in agility at the national level with her three border collies.

Veterinary Assistant
Karla joined the Animal Care team after working only in human medicine before. After working many years in home health, we are pleased to have her in veterinary medicine. Outside of work she is busy with her children, as they are both involved in sports, and spending time with her pets.

Sam has been working with animals for over three years and joined our team in early 2022. She enjoys building a relationship with the clients and their pets! She has two cats-Luci and Jack Torrence and a rottweiler- Baron. Outside of work she enjoys filling her time with camping, boating, going to concerts, painting and gardening.

Kennel Assistant
Janna has enjoyed working with animals since 2021. At home, she has a dog and a cat, Dakota & Taylor. She loves spending as much time outside as possible, taking Dakota on walks and playing laser tag with Taylor. She especially loves visiting the beach!

Kennel Assistant
Max joined our team in April 2023. He currently attends Virginia Peninsula Community College seeking an associates degree in Visual Arts. Outside of work Max enjoys drawing and road trips.
Lindsay
Practice Manager-Animal Care of Mathews
Lindsay joined the practice in March 2016 . She has taken a special interest in planning all of the clinics special events, including our annual Raise the Woof Open House. As well as our participation in the Daffodil Festival and Clean Gloucester Day. When not at work she enjoys traveling with her husband and two children.

Licensed Veterinary Technician
Lisa graduated from Central Carolina Community College with an AAS in 1990. She began her career working with animals on a wildlife refuge. Her favorite area of veterinary medicine is getting to witness the bonds between pets and their owners. Outside of her time at Animal Care she enjoys taking her dogs, Vasi and Ellie, for walks and helping with animal training. She a;so has three cats- Sochi, Gregor, and Lily.
Jess
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jess joined our team at Animal Care of Gloucester in January 2019. She received her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology at Blue Ridge Community College in 2017. In her free time, she likes to be with family and spend time outdoors. Her pets include a lab mix named Hazel, a special shih tzu named Lucy, three cats named Nora, Emmett, and Avery, and a hedgehog named Elliot.

Our “all over lady”-started with the practice in February of 2001 as a veterinary assistant, moving to reception in 2007. Cindy loves working with people and pets. In her spare time, she enjoys evenings on the deck with her husband Aron and her son Ashton. Cindy also spends free time after work with her dog Jada and cat Debo and enjoys baking delicious goodies!

Meagan is new to veterinary medicine and we are so glad to have her on the Animal Care team! She enjoys working with the pets and building new relationships with their owners. Outside of work she enjoys camping with my husband and 2 boys! When not camping, they enjoy spending time at home with their two cats, Darthy and Penelope.

Emily has a long history of experience since working with them in different capacities since she was 13. She is currently enrolled in school to become a canine behaviorist and trainer. She fills her free time with going to concerts, spending time with her six rescue dogs and hamster.
Dana
Groomer
Dana is a graduate of VCU School of the Arts and has many years of experience in the veterinary field. Her passion for animal care is evident with the joy she brings to both her positions her at ACG as a part-time Groomer and Receptionist. She feels this is the perfect way to combine her artistic ability with her love for animals. She is a full time wife and mother of two little girls, Anna and Stella. She also loves her dogs, Randall and Merle, and three cats Kittilly, Delia and Bittilly.

In 2013 I Graduated from the Animal Behavior College with a focus on Canine Obedience Instructor. In 2014 I became a Certified American Kennel Club (AKC) Evaluator allowing me to instruct the STAR Puppy Class and evaluate the Canine Good Citizen test! I have been teaching Obedience classes since 2013 and enjoy working with each dog & handler team! I also manage my family’s horse farm full time and show AQHA. In my free time I enjoy visiting with friends & family! My husband and I have 5 dogs a Golden retriever named Dale, a Chocolate lab named Duke, a rescue hound mix named Libby, a rescue black lab named Emma, and a Blue Heeler named Tessa!
